Thursday Threads

Last night I went to the U2 concert with D and a couple of friends. We'd had our tickets for well over a year (the show was suppose to be last summer but it was postponed because Bono hurt his back) and were very excited. It's nice when a band you love so much is accompanied by another talented artist. We were fortunate enough to have Florence and the Machine open up for U2 last night. Her voice was melodic and her dress designed by Gucci was the most glorious ensemble to grace that stage. Here is a picture above that I took on my phone. You'll see the flowing yellow chiffon blowing in the wind so graciously. It was stunning. Below is my drawing of it. Loved it!

Bono and the boys looked dashing and put on one hell of a show! They are the modern definition of Rock Stars, talented and generous.

Where the Streets Have No Name

When I was 15 one of my favorite albums was Achtung Baby...still is. I listened to that CD over and over and over again.
When I was 23, I went to my first U2 concert with D...we have since gone to see them twice together, tonight we are going again.
Music is a huge part of our lives and this is one of our favorite bands of all time. I actually wanted our first dance to be to Where the Streets Have No Name (it wasn't).

So tonight, in like 90% humidity with a 60% chance of thunderstorms we will be there with the boys from the Green Isle.

"...and when I go there, I go there with you. It's all I can do."

A Whale of a Tale

Just yesterday I got a nice email from my sister-in-law's friend E who is having a boy in a matter of weeks. E and her husband live right around the corner from me and have asked that I paint something "Whale Themed" for their baby's room.

I'm going to meet with them today and am going armed with these sketches of whales. Which of the 4 whales would you pick?

Queen Elizabeth...the Bee

I hope you all have been having a nice weekend. I finished my final sketch for Liz's Bee...which I think I will name, Queen Elizabeth of Honeysuckle... what do you think?

I also got another commission for a nursery for an adorable couple. I can't wait to see the space and get working on it.

So yes...I am massively taking commissions and will ship! Let me know...

Burger Beast

Last summer while I was pregnant I took FULL advantage and ate my favorite food A LOT...to me...nothing beats a burger. Lean ground beef, cooked medium rare with lettuce, onion, tomato. pickle, cheddar cheese, ketchup and mustard...*drool... such a delightful party in my mouth is normally joined by fries and either a diet coke or a beer...and to top it all off...who can say NO to a good shake?

This week I have been at it again...a burger kick. It all started last Saturday when after the spring concert of the Miami Gay Mens Chorus we hopped over to the Shake Shack. Shake Shack just reminds me of New York and bring a smile to my face. The burgers are solid, the fries are a good addition and the shakes make it a nice meal (though i don't think they are "la bomba atomica" of shakes).

Later this week I hit a "new" joint for burgers in Downtown Miami. I'm suppose to not say where it is, but let me tell you I don't mind telling you about it because honestly I didn't think the burger was very good...it wasn't bad, but I won't have a burger there again...
Link
Now, today....today was a GREAT burger! I went to 5 Napkin Burger . Another great NYC establishment who has found a home in Miami. It was ah-mah-zing...best part the fries and shake were ah-mah-zing too...and they had a nice beer selection. So...I had my classic "5 Napkin Burger" (pictured above) with Tuscan fries, a Blue Moon and then I split a cookies n' cream milkshake...ummm yeah. (say it with me in your best Oprah voice) Soooo good!!
Probably one of the other best parts of my burger eating experience was my friend T (you may remember her from this post), the therapist who is 9.5 months prego calling vaginas "self cleaning ovens" as she slurped her milkshake.

This weekend I will also be trying the BGR: Burger Joint on Miracle Mile in Coral Gables...I'll tell you how it is.

...like I said...I'm on a roll!

Thursday Threads

It's Thursday and that means its time for Thursday Threads.

This (as promised) is my ensemble from yesterday. As you can see I wore my glasses (which I am wearing today too)...during the work week, it is so easy to throw them on, and since I don't have babykins reaching for them, I can wear them. ...but I digress...what I want you to pay attention to is my top.

I got this little gem at Forever 21 and it was a whole $13! A lovely silky ikat inspired print in degrade shades of purples, pinks and whites. I did look for it online and failed to find it...so you will have to hunt at your local store.

I paired the top up with a "vintage" reversible pink to orange skirt from the Gap (Summer 2006). A white short sleeve open cardigan from Old Navy (Spring 2011) and a pair of gold rope flippers from Old navy (Summer 2011).

Have you found any great finds so far this summer? (BTW, although summer officially began on Tuesday, its been summer this whole month for me)

Wednesday Wardrobe

Can I tell you how great this skirt is...it has POCKETS! ...it's a gorgeous shade of kelly green...AND it was on sale at Anthro...thank you anthro! You unfortunately cannot find this color online and the price online is ++ too because there is an additional -25% at our Anthropologies in Miami.

...I realize today is Wardrobe Wednesday and this is what I wore yesterday, but isn't it great?! I am a fan of today's ensemble too...so perhaps I will have to show you in my Thursday Threads as two of today's pieces were GREAT finds!

I hope you are having a great week!

Liz's Bee Round 1 Sketches

You may remember that last week my friend Liz became the happy owner of "Key Lime Pie". Liz also commissioned a bee of her very own after seeing babykins' "Queen Bee".

Here are the initial sketches for Liz's bee. I'm not sure which one I like most...I am feeling either bee in flowers (bottom left) or bee in sky (upper left). Which do you like most?

Love you all!

Thursday Threads

I have posted "Thursday Threads" a couple of times...and I must say I think I am going to make this a usual thing. So here we go...some pieces that I am coveting at the moment....and we know what happens when I covet...I get.

My first item is something I've had my eye on for quite some time... my dear friend KP over at Summer in Newport sells these Queen Bea bags. Isn't this one fab? I love the font. I think I might make mine orange border with the pink monogram. Next I am in love with this dress from Pink Chicken. A few months ago I mentioned my new found love for Pink Chicken. I now have 3 dresses of this style. They are so perfectly comfortable and easy. I belt them and wear a cardigan for work, and wear them loosey goosey for the weekends. This one has POCKETS!!!
Next I am in LOVE with these cute Ikat shorts from J.Crew. I am loving Ikat these days, and these treasures are on SALE! The only hesitation that I have is that they are a 5" inseam...I normally don't rock anything shorter than 7" (yes, I know how dirty that sounds)...we'll see.

And last...but not least...my other long long long time covet... a pair of green Hunter Boots, just like the Queen wears. My fascination with them has grown this week with all the torrential downpours we have had...that paired with the fact that my feet grew a wee bit during my pregoness leaving my current rain boots a bit snug.

Anything you are coveting this week?

XOXO

Key Lime Pie Finds a Home

Years ago I had this fun idea to play with words and paint "Key Lime Pie" ...so I did it for my first solo show 3 years ago. Tonight, my friend Liz gave Key Lime Pie a home on the walls of her home.
Liz, a talented graduate of Georgia Tech and Georgetown Law has also really liked the Queen Bee in Baby C's room...so she's commissioned a Bee of her own. So sketches will be coming soon...stay tuned!

Maxi Days of Summer

Summer weather has officially arrived in Miami. Two days in a row of afternoon down pours...and I mean down pours. Today, it was hailing when I pulled up into my driveway and had to climb into my trunk ( I do have a station wagon, but still...) to fetch my umby. I then grabbed my bags and held them as tightly as possible (booby machine, cell phone and iPad must stay dry) as I ran to the front door.

Needless to say my lovely flowy maxi skirt got soaked!

Has summer weather and fashion knocked on your door yet?

Up Up and Away

This afternoon was grey and rainy in Miami---but I wouldn't know because I was at Airbus for a museum meeting as we prepare to open a new exhibition on the 100 years of aviation in Miami.
It was a fun meeting because we actually went inside a simulator...now we didn't get to "ride" the simulator...but it was really fascinating!

Anyhow--- this is what I wore today. I hope you had a nice weekend.

Bottoms Up Mermaid

A month ago a friend of mine passed away. Some would say she was way too young, 53 and others would say she lived life to the fullest. Desca was an artist, a philanthropist, an activist, and the mayor of her town! Literally! ...anyhow she loved mermaids, martinis and smoking her cigarettes. I drew this mermaid the day of her funeral and plan to paint it soon.
Cheers Desca! We will always love you!

Catch of the Day

Isn't this starfish cuff a dream? It too can be yours if you visit Anthropologie right now. I feel like it's one of those pieces that I will visit often on the web while I decide whether I should add it to my collection or not. In an ideal world I would pair it with this "vintage" J.Crew dress from Summer 2007. I have looked for this dress high and low...but nothing. I have the navy skirt version...not as fab as the dress.

That's my catch of the day. Hope you're having a nice day!

China All the Way From New York

One of my favorite things to do (in my mind) is to think about what my home would look like if I was not married. See... if I were a singleton, I would not have to compromise. My home's aesthetic would not be a combination of "us" but just plain ole "me". I do this a lot when I walk into Antrhopologie and peruse their home section. Today I got a lovely email from my friend Kate, you may know her as Kate Spade... well Kate has a whole line of china. I decided that this is what I would get if it were only up to me...
The Larabee Dot glasses. I would say I not only adore the dot motif, but the Larabee name...as it reminds me of the movie, Sabrina (for the record I am a fan of the original and the remake).

I would them pair them with the Market Street Blue china... aren't they classic and whimsical all at the same time? I adore these. I had polka dot plates similar to this that SOMEONE made me give up.

Below you can see the Market Street cereal bowl, wouldn't you want to eat your cheerios in this every morning? I know I would...

The best part is how affordable Kate's collection is. *swoon..... followed by a *le sigh....

A New Design

I realize that I recently redesigned the blog...but I wasn't really happy with it.

Today I did it again...and this time I love it!

Have a great weekend!
